SSCC-18 barcodes, also known as Pallet Codes, are 18-digit barcodes used to track logistics units, typically pallets containing multiple trade items. These barcodes are widely used in supply chains, particularly by retailers with large distribution centers (DCs), to monitor the movement of pallets.
Each SSCC-18 barcode serves as a unique identifier, allowing seamless tracking as pallets move through warehouses and distribution networks. The numbers are assigned sequentially, ensuring each pallet has a distinct SSCC-18 barcode. Once used, an SSCC-18 barcode is discarded and replaced with a new one for the next shipment.
Example of SSCC-18 Barcode Sequencing:
- First pallet: 00731788155700000(4)
- Second pallet: 00731788155700001(1)
- Third pallet: 00731788155700002(8)
The bolded digits highlight the sequential nature of SSCC-18 barcodes (0, 1, 2…), while the final digit in brackets is a check digit, calculated to ensure barcode accuracy.
