“Amazon must approve your brand before you can use it to list products. Brands should be registered through Brand Registry, but if your brand is not eligible for Brand Registry, you can obtain an exception by contacting Seller Support and mentioning code 5665.”
Overview:
This error is typically not related to the barcode itself, as barcodes do not trigger this specific error. Instead, it occurs because Amazon requires proof of ownership for the brand you are attempting to list. To resolve this issue, you may need to submit various forms of documentation to prove your association with the brand.
Possible Documentation to Resolve the Issue:
- Trademark Registration:
If your brand is trademarked, submit your registration details. - Evidence of Brand Association:
Provide proof that the brand name is valid and associated with your product. - Documentation Amazon May Request:
- Product Images:
Ensure the brand name is clearly visible and permanently affixed to the product. - Packaging Images:
If the brand name isn’t on the product itself, provide images of the packaging where the brand name is clearly visible. - Brand Authorization Letter:
If you’re an authorized seller for the brand, submit a letter from the brand owner confirming your authorization. - Invoices:
Submit invoices from a verified supplier showing the brand name and product purchase details.
- Product Images:
Barcode Considerations:
The barcodes we supply are issued by the Uniform Code Council (UCC) and will show the first prefix holder when checked in GS1’s database. This can sometimes complicate the listing process as Amazon may not directly match your brand with your barcode.
GS1’s site is not ideal for verifying reseller barcodes, but we can provide a Letter of Affiliation, which Amazon may accept as part of the brand verification process.
We also suggest adding your barcode, product, and company information to gtinlookup.org. Once your product listing displays a “Verified by RGBN” seal, this may serve as further proof of ownership. If your listing on gtinlookup.org needs to be updated with your company information, please contact submissions@gtinlookup.org.
Workaround: Using N/A or TBA in the Brand Name Field
If you’re unable to provide the required documentation right away, you can list your product using N/A or TBA (To Be Announced) in the brand name field. Once your product is listed, you should be able to edit the brand name via your Seller Central account.
